Frequently Asked Questions

Is Paws and Pumpkins Rescue a no-kill shelter?

Yes! Here at Paws and Pumpkins Rescue, we only accept as many cats as we currently have the space and resources to care for. We are committed to finding lifelong homes for all the cats we take in so all our cats have a guaranteed place at our rescue until they find their fur-ever home!

The only time we ever resort to euthanasia is when it is deemed the most humane option for a specific cat. The way we classify if humane euthanasia is the most humane option for a specific cat is if their quality of life has degraded to a point of discomfort for the cat and if a veterinarian thinks their condition will not improve enough to significantly increase their quality of life.

What kind of supplies can I donate? When can I drop off donations?

We take all kinds of supply donations! Check our Donate page for more information about donations! You can drop off any donations anytime during our opening hours.

I ordered something from the Wishlist but got a delivery error message. What do I do?

If you ordered something from our Amazon Wishlist and received a message from Amazon saying delivery was attempted but unsuccessful, don’t worry! Although we have our delivery hours and instructions set on Amazon, we often still get delivery attempts outside of our opening hours. We appreciate an email from you at info@pawsandpumpkinsrescue.com whenever you order something from our Wishlist so we can keep an eye out for the delivery.

What areas does Paws and Pumpkins Rescue provide rescue services?

Paws and Pumpkins Rescue is the only nonprofit cat rescue established in Polk County so we focus our rescue work in this area. Polk County is often overlooked by other rescues so we aim to provide essential rescue services to this county.

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18?

All volunteers must be 16+ years old. If you are under the age of 18 you will need an adult parent/guardian to fill out our Volunteer Interest Form on our Volunteer page as well as sign the consent form in person at the rescue before you are allowed to start volunteering with us.

I can’t afford medical services for my pet. Can you help?

Unfortunately Paws and Pumpkins Rescue does not have a community medical fund at this time. We are using all financial resources to keep our doors open and our kitties fed. We suggest reaching out to other rescues such as Friends of Felines in Salem or Rad Pets in Corvallis for low cost medical services for your pet.

I found a cat\dog outside! What do I do?

If you find a dog outside, call your local police station. They will be able to either come get the dog or direct you to who may be able to help if they’re busy.

If you find a cat outside, stop and assess the situation first. If the cat is an adult and it looks healthy, clean and calm, leave it be. Chances are it’s someone’s indoor/outdoor cat. If you’re worried, you can always take a picture of the cat and post it on local Lost and Found Pets Facebook groups in case it’s someone’s missing pet. If you find a kitten outside, please leave them alone unless they appear to be sick or in immediate danger. Chances are the mama cat is nearby and she will come back for them when they need to be fed. If the kittens look sick or injured or if the mama cat hasn’t come back in over 4 hours, that’s when human intervention may be necessary.
